Here are the attributes or requirements that an app icon for Google Play must meet:

Cut: 512 x 512 px.
Format: PNG (no transparencies or shadows since Google will apply them automatically).
Shape: Square. Do not add icons with rounded corners. Keep in mind that Google masking is 20% of the radius.
Maximum size: 1024 KB.

Icon size

The size of the app icon depends on the shape it has and the idea you want to convey. It won’t be the same to talk about a minimalist design (e.g. productivity apps) as it is about a more crowded icon (e.g. games).

Google recommends do not use icons or badges from other applications or carry out promotions on the icon. I’ve never tried adding a promotion, but if we’re clear that this temporary change is going to generate a lot of organic uploads, then we need to value it.
