Is the creator account only for influencers and content creators? Or can it be used by a traditional business?
If you’re hesitating between the business account and the creator account, read on.
You will learn in particular if there are differences between these 2 types of account, how to convert a professional account into a creator account and how to return to a professional Instagram account from a creator account.
3 types of Instagram accounts
Instagram offers 3 types of accounts:
Instagram personal account
The personal Instagram account for individuals.
It’s about 1st account historically available on the platform.
As Instagram has grown, other accounts have sprung up.
Instagram professional account
Created in 2016, the professional account concerns companies. The latter thus have access to several professional features:
- The addition ofcontact information displayed directly on the account (telephone number, e-mail address, physical address).
- Adding a call to action button (make an appointment, book, order a meal, gift cards).
- The Instagram statistics with data on subscribers, interactions with content, or accounts reached.
- The promotion of publications in the form of an advertisement.
- The insertion of a clickable link in stories for certified professional accounts or with more than 1000 subscribers.
Instagram creator account
Launched in 2019, the creator account was created for content producers, the influencers, the public figures and the artists.
Initially accessible to accounts with more than 10,000 subscribers and linked to a Facebook page, it is now open to all users, regardless of the number of their subscribers.
Instagram creator account and professional account: more and more similar
When you create a creator account, Instagram highlights 3 specific characteristics: the ” flexible profile settings’, the ” simplified messaging “And more” statistical tools ”.
However, I find that these specificities are less true today than they were before.
Flexible profile settings
So the category and contact details can now be hidden on the Instagram creator account and the professional account.
Also, while the creator profile usually has more category suggestions, it is still possible to create a professional account with an activity that is more like a creator account, like for example “gamer” or “video creator”.
The 2 types of account now offer messaging with 2 tabs for segmenting messages: “main” and “general”.
By default, only the “main” tab issues a notification. (But, you can change the behavior of the notifications of these tabs in your settings).
The messaging system allows you to sort the invitations by message from accounts to which you are not subscribed according to 2 options: “priority invitations” and “all invitations”.
Priority invitations are displayed based on important accounts.
You are also able to move accepted messages to the “main” or “general” tab.
For my part, I do not notice any difference in the operation of the messaging system depending on the account chosen.
More detailed statistics tools
The Instagram creator account and the professional account both offer analysis of subscriptions (follows) and cancellations (unfollow) on a daily basis for the last 7 days.
In addition, it would appear that the creator account no longer benefits from its most attractive functionality present in the Audience tab (Statistics). It allowed the establishment or absence of a correlation between the number of new subscribers (or the number of unsubscribes) and the publications shared on the same day.
Apart from these 3 characteristics, let’s ask ourselves about the publicity, the branded content, Shopping and Checkout.
With regard to advertising, 2 types of account are able to carry out advertising campaigns.
Moreover, thebranded content tool allows them to validate upstream, if they wish, the accounts of their partners authorized to identify them in a publication.
Purchases is available for business accounts. But the eligible creators have now had access to it for a few months.
Furthermore, the creators benefit from another functionality, Shopping for designers (beta), in order to add product labels of their favorite brands.
Finally, US professional accounts and qualifying creator accounts can use Checkout.
Disadvantages of Instagram creator account
On the downside, the account creator is not supported by Instagram API, unlike the professional account.
If you use a third-party tool to post directly to Instagram or manage all your social networks in one place, you will be at a dead end.
It is the same for third-party statistical analysis tools.
For some of you, the Creator Studio from the office (or even Facebook Suite from the mobile) will be a sufficient alternative.
